Sarah Palin resigned as Governor of Alaska today.  This topic is being thoroughly covered and dissected by both sides of the political arena.  Well here’s my take on it.  First off, I thought her speach was excellent.  The logic was a bit hard to follow in parts but overall the impression was that of an honest woman explaining why she felt this was the best course of action for her and Alaska.  She also pulled it off without a teleprompter, lets see Obama do that just once! (Hot Air: Video: Palin resigns )

Having worked in corrections and still having friends in law enforcement and corrections, I can identify with part of what she is saying.  She is dealing with people who can file endless complaints without concern for cost or retribution on themselves and with the sole intent of creating problems for her and making her look bad.  This is a tactic used by liberals and incarcerated individuals (also usually liberals strangely enough) all the time.  Even if the accusations are false and consistently dismissed, they have the effect of decreasing your ability to do your job.  In addition to the time and focus it takes to defend yourself, it also takes money in some cases.  In Sarah Palin’s case, it isn’t just effecting her personal time and finances, it effects the finances of the state and her ability to be an effective Governor.  This is, of course, the whole intent behind making the accusations.  While it may seem nobel to tell her to stand and fight, what is gained by doing so?  It doesn’t make the accusations stop and the only ones hurt by it are the taxpayers of Alaska.  So…assuming she has faith in her Lt. Governor, this could actually be a very good move.

So far, she hasn’t announced her intentions for the future.  Would Sarah Palin be a good nominee for President?  I don’t know right now.  Certainly she brings new energy to the Republican party.  She comes across as honest and trustworthy, something neither of the last two presidential candidates achieved.  She is a genuine social conservative and her record would seem to indicate that she is fiscally conservative also.  She does need to do some prepping if she is going to be a legitimate candidate though.  There can’t be interviews where a second stringer like Katie Couric appears to fluster her.  She has some time to get back with her family and get with some “experts” and decide what she wants to do.  I hope she takes a little time out of the constant scrutiny and re-emerges with fresh energy and ready to take on all challengers.  If she choses not to run for President, I hope she will continue to be heavily involved in the reformation of the Republican party.  She has a lot to offer and many of those who would seek the highest office would do well to emulate some of her qualities.

Here’s what some other sites I like have to say about this:Why Sarah Palin is so freaking awesome: Reason 38, The Other McCain: Cuda Alert, Conservatism Today: Sarah Palin to step down,   I didn’t include any liberal sites because their reaction is pretty predictable, and, mostly because I don’t care.
