Cheney spanks Obama…verbally I mean
Today, two men laid out their case to America. President Obama started his speech with a story about his father. I am not sure what this had to do with national security, but that is what he chose to do. He continued with statements about his values and with accusations against the Bush administration. He spoke of closing Gitmo and how it was used to recruit terrorists. He presented no plan on how to close Gitmo, and no facts to back up his claims and moral posturing. He claims waterboarding doesn’t work but won’t acknowledge documents that prove otherwise. You can read it here, but as Hot Air warns, its a long slog Hot Air: We must never compromise our cherished values unless its really important
Dick Cheney presented a concise statement of what was done, when, to who and why he felt it was the right thing to do. You can read a transcript of it here The Other McCain: Cheney tortures Pelosi Dick Cheney covered more ground in his one speech than Nancy Pelosi has covered in weeks of dancing around questions. Dick Cheney knew about waterboarding, authorized it then, and stands behind his decision.
I’m tired of listening to people like Obama and Pelosi pretend some horrible travesty has happened here. You can barely even make a weak case that waterboarding fits the legal definition of torture. “Torture” means an act committed by a person acting under the color of law specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering (other than pain or suffering incidental to lawful sanctions) upon another person within his custody or physical control. That is the legal definition. Waterboarding doesn’t inflict physical pain, so we can eliminate that part. Mental pain or suffering, probably some, but the definition of “severe mental pain or suffering” requires prolonged mental harm.
Some of you may not know this, but the U.S. military runs a school called Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape, S.E.R.E. People going through this school are interogated, slapped, and even go through waterboarding. Shall we shut down S.E.R.E. school and bring charges against the instructors there? Do we believe the U.S. military is torturing our own boys? In the years S.E.R.E school has existed, there have been two reported cases of mental suffering beyond the immediate experience. That pretty much eliminates the “prolonged mental harm” scenario also. President Obama can believe it is torture all he wants, legally, there is nothing to back that up. Nancy Pelosi can talk about being misled all she wants. I am guessing she has nothing legal to back this claim either.
Funny thing about S.E.R.E. school, pilots are one of the main groups to go through. I have a couple friends who have been through it. George W. Bush was a pilot. I don’t know if he went to S.E.R.E. school or not but there is a good chance that he did or has friends who have. So dumb ol’ George W. Bush probably knows a lot more about waterboarding and similar techniques than the entire Democrat Party. It’s obvious that Dick Cheney does.
Obama does support something that does fit the definition of torture. He supports driving a suction tube into someone’s head and sucking their brains out because they had the audacity to survive an abortion attempt.
