Van Jones resigns - a small step, not a giant leap
Van Jones has resigned as Green Jobs Czar (I know that wasn’t his actual title but I don’t really care what his actual title was). This is due to Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin and the conservative blog community, who have made too much noise about Van Jones’ beliefs for even the Obama administration to ignore.
The conservative blog community is feeling justifiably triumphant. We played a large part in spreading this story and keeping it from fading from public view. Here are just a few of the entries on Van Jones’s resignation: Legal Insurrection: L’Affaire Van Jones is histoire, Hot Air: The media strikes (out) again on Jones resignation, The Other McCain even includes a musical accompaniment: The Other McCain: Van Jones resigns. Personally, I think a little Ray Charles suits this situation rather nicely:
Here’s the problem with all this though, as I stated yesterday (If Van Jones resigns…so what?) and Michell Malkin warns, the left is already trying to portray Van Jones as a great man who was a victim of a witch hunt by Glenn Beck and the vast (and certainly raaaaacist) right wing conspirators. One need only read the teary eyed Huffington Post entries: Glenn Beck gets first scalp, We all blew it wherein Jones is portrayed as a man who maybe made a few bad choices in his past who chose to rise above all that and “work within the system” (how charitable of him). Glenn Beck, on the other hand, is an extremist who just couldn’t let Van Jones be forgiven for a few indiscretions of his youth. The Great Van Jones decided it was better for the country if he willingly sacrificed himself.
That’s how the left is going to play this. Angry right wing racists forced another black man out of a position of power. Glenn Beck is the extremist in this story?! Now, the Obama administration can say it has been very accomadating to these right wing extremists but it is time ot start being forceful on some issues. Van Jones was a great man and he would want healthcare reform passed. Let’s call it the Jones Kennedy bill.
Van Jones resigning was just the taking of a small hill in a vast battle. It’s a victory yes, but there are still a lot of battles ahead. Obama has made it quite clear what his agenda is and what type of people he choses to enact that agenda. Jones’ selection was not a mistake or a slip up in the vetting process. In Obamas own words, he chose to associate with, “The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists.” That was in college though. That’s in the past. Besides, liberals hate it when you use things like “facts” or “their own words” in discussions.
Obama was fully aware of Jones’ beliefs. He just wasn’t expecting people to be so upset about those beliefs because Obama doesn’t see anything wrong with those beliefs and, in fact, shares many of them. Van Jones is out of the picture, at least as a Czar. Don’t think that Van Jones and people like him won’t still be involved in Obama’s vision for the future of this country.
Update: Read the statement from the man who is largely responsible for exposing Van Jones for the radical, racist, communist loon he is: Glenn Beck statement on Van Jones resignation
Update: Holy crap! I found this lunatic on Memeorandum. If you want to see how absolutely bonkers some of the left has become, check out this post: When will the Whitehouse learn you can not negotiate with terrorists. Normally, I wouldn’t link to such a loon but you need to see how far gone some of these people are. He describes Tea Partiers as psychos and terrorists while he talks about what a “really good guy” Van Jones was.
